Portfolio Construction : Combining Active and Passive Management

11 May 2017

Corporate

Finding the right selection between active and passive has been difficult in 2016 as few active managers succeeded in outperforming their benchmark last year.  During the year, markets were driven more by politics than economics, creating a dispersion in returns among factors and across regions and causing real difficulty for alpha-seeking investors. In such a market environment, making the right choice between actively managed and passive, index-tracking funds was more important than ever before. As before, the most successful active managers were those ableto time their portfolio allocations towards the best-performing factors. Marlène Hassine Konqui and Nicolas Moussavi explain how factor analysis helps to explain active asset managers’ performance and how Lyxor’s new quantitative model can help our clients to build optimal portfolio allocations.
