Introduction

The philosophy of the "Lyxor Index Fund" is to track the performance of a benchmark index as closely as possible, using the most relevant and efficient techniques, through a physical replication process.
The index replication process is designed to reduce costs and minimise tracking error, while optimising performance. The portfolios reflect the benchmark index as closely as possible, with no active bias in the replication method.
A preference for pure replication, via investment in a perfect basket of stocks that replicates the weightings of the index exactly.
Replication by sampling, through the construction of a reference portfolio that contains fewer stocks than the index but which delivers returns that are as close as possible to those of the index.
In addition to these two main approaches, other replication techniques may be used, such as synthetic replication (using futures contracts).
